The Eustachian tube, a narrow tube that connects the middle ear to the adenoidal (nasal) opening, helps regulate the pressure between the middle ear and external ear. Ear congestion typically occurs when the Eustachian tube, located between the ear and throat, becomes blocked. Ear infections in adults are of two types, outer or external ear infections and acute or middle ear infections. When the outer ear is infected with germs and other bacteria, then it results in otitis externa or outer ear infection.
